Econ- GW Students

In this course students will travel to Shanghai China to explore one of the most vibrant and interesting places in the world.   The course is a Survey of International Economics and covers the basic theory and policy aspects of both international trade and international finance.  With China as the most important emerging market in the world today, virtually every topic covered in this course corresponds to an issue between the US and China, or between the China and the rest of the world.  As such we will use China’s experiences as a way of vividly highlighting the economic lessons of the course.

These academic lessons will come alive as we travel around Shanghai and the surrounding area.  Excursions include visits to popular tourist attractions in Shanghai; a trip to Hangzhou, an ancient city replete with traditional Chinese gardens and new industrial parks; and possibly a visit to an historic water town.   Students will also attend presentations about the Chinese economy and have a chance to meet Chinese students, professional and GW alumni in Shanghai.

*Introductory macro and micro economics courses are prerequisites for this course.*
