Health Insurance

Short-Term Abroad participants are automatically enrolled in a mandatory insurance plan, HTH Worldwide. This insurance covers students only during the time they are abroad with the program. HTH Worldwide covers health insurance and repatriation, as well as medical, political and natural disaster evacuation. HTH also provides coverage for accidents and sickness.

HTH Worldwide
The George Washington University has contracted with HTH to provide health insurance and worldwide assistance and evacuation services for all GW faculty, staff, and students traveling abroad for university-related business. The services provided by HTH Worldwide range from telephone advice and referrals to full-scale evacuation.

HTH Worldwide insurance is specifically designed for students studying abroad. HTH provides health coverage for accidents, sickness, medical conditions that may arise, and emergency medical reunion. It covers students in any country overseas, except their country of citizenship.

The HTH website contains an online resource called “Well Prepared” for inputting medical needs and destination information. All travelers are encouraged to utilize this tool so this information is available to HTH and GW on-call staff should you need to be located in the event of a crisis or emergency.

Once enrolled, you will receive an email with login information and instructions for the HTH website. You will also be required to print out a membership card that you should carry with you at all times. It includes your member ID number, coverage dates and the HTH emergency telephone number, which can be called collect from anywhere in the world.
