How did this program contribute to your overall learning experience at GW?
This program forced me to become more independent and to take on added responsibilities. My understanding of Latin American history, and Chilean history especially, greatly improved. The social and political unrest in Chile today is a fascinating prism through which to study their previous two centuries of independence.

Tell us about your favorite aspect of this program.
My favorite aspect of this program was studying in an environment of political and social unrest, surrounded by intense academic debate. Many university faculties went on strike and are still striking today. The practicalities of enrolling in courses were complicated, but the out-of-classroom experiences far outweighed, in academic merit, the resulting loss of class time. Additionally, having a dedicated, active, engaged program director in Lise-Anne Strohschank was very helpful. She is one of the very best GW employees I have encountered.
