Program Description:

Universidad San Francisco de Quito

Founded in 1987, Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) was the first private university in Ecuador. This elective allows students to experience the Ecuadorian health care system through clinical rotations in the areas of tropical medicine and community medicine in rural primary health centers. In addition, the following rotations are offered in urban hospitals:
  • pediatrics and subspecialties
  • anesthesiology
  • emergency medicine
  • internal medicine
  • infectology
  • cardiology
  • obstetrics and gynecology
  • surgery
Students must also perform standard clinical duties while in Ecuador and are expected to work closely with a designated faculty mentor, who will evaluate the student's progress.

What to Do When You Login:

The system will prompt you to select which semester you would like to attend your international clinical elective. You will not choose by elective block, but rather put Fall, Spring, or Summer depending on the month you will be going abroad.
