Program Description:

Israel: Information Systems, Development & Growth

Is this program for me? Microsoft

Did you realize that within the last 60 years Israel has evolved from an agricultural based economy to a high-tech economy?  Do you know that Israel is the world leader in water management, 3D printing and communications (just to name a few) and technology plays a critical role in Israel’s existence?  As you travel in Israel and visit different companies you will explore not only that growth but also the future potential and impact of the technology expansion within Israel and the global economy.

In order to gain appreciation of Israeli organizations, you will visit 8-10 Israeli companies including innovative start-ups, multinational firms and a cybersecurity firm. Some companies visited and looking for GW’s return are Checkpoint, IronSource, Netafim, LightTricks, PICO and Panorama.  In addition to ‘work’ there is time for cultural enrichment, as you travel to some of the important historical sites, such as Masada and the old city of Jersualem.  You will also have ‘free’ time to explore Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

You will acquire an appreciation for start-ups that do not always succeed, but the entrepreneurs acquire expertise that enables them to succeed in their next endeavor. You will become aware of differences in the use and value of technology in different cultures. You will gain knowledge that will benefit your future courses and your career.
"My trek to Israel was nothing short of amazing. In a very short time, I was able to learn a great deal about entrepreneurship in what many people would consider an unlikely place for it. It was also great to experience the multiple layers of history through the old city of Jerusalem all the way to the modern kibbutz. Our tour operators put together a fantastic itinerary that allowed our group to experience it all, old and new - we left with a much greater appreciation of Israel than we arrived.
And did I mention the food? Unbelievably good. From the formal dinner on the first day to the tour of the markets in Tel Aviv and Nora's Kitchen in the Druze Village. The hospitality was second to none, and I would gladly go back for the hummus alone."
I was fortunate to attend a short-term study abroad program in Israel with the department of Information Systems & Technology Management. I was impressed with the quality of the meetings that Israeli & Co and GW organized. We met with a diverse group of companies, from Fuels Choice to tech incubators. All the companies we met with were leaders in the industry. The trip was a fascinating way to research and study Israeli culture and business. You really got a full picture of Israel as a “start-up nation” with a great mix of relevant industry meetings and cultural tours.”
